Marthoma Pontifical Shrine This modern shrine honors St.Thomas the Apostle who is believed to have landed in Maliankara in AD.52. The shrine is set in a semi circle with the church in the centre flanked by statues of the saints. In 1953 relics believed to be the bones from the right arm of St.Francis were placed within the shrine. The shrine is opened daily, late in the afternoon, for public viewing. St. Thomas’ arrival is celebrated annually with a huge festival on the Sunday following 21st November.
